Rover Mini

Rare ERA model

This very rare ERA Mini Turbo was imported from Japan in 2003 and has only covered 27,000 Miles. It has a turbocharged 1275 Rover engine which produces 94 bhp at 6200 rpm and propels the car from 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and onto a claimed top speed of 115 mph.

We understand the engine has been completely rebuilt by a formula one engineer who is also a Mini expert. The extensive work included rebuilding the turbo unit, SU carbs and a new AP turbo clutch was also fitted. The car has also been subject to a bare metal respray just 5 month ago.

The ERA Mini Turbo was built by Engineering Research & Application Ltd. at Dunstable in Bedfordshire, England under the ERA brand name from 1989 to 1991. ERA’s aim was to build a small performance car to rival the Golf GTI and Peugeot 205 GTI but which could be serviced by any Rover dealer. ERA modified the suspension, brakes, water and oil cooling systems and fitted a luxury Connolly leather interior and a chunky body kit to cover the ERA 6x13 wheels. This Mini Turbo has also had new carpets fitted.

A total of just 436 ERA Mini Turbos were produced and they sold for around £12,000 when new. Most were exported to Japan but here’s one that made the journey back home.

The car is located in Ferdown, Dorset.
